Pin Description Templates

Staring at an empty description box is the slowest part of publishing. Pick a formula, fill three fields, and get a description shaped the way Pinterest readers expect.

Result

Fill in the three fields to get descriptions.

What makes a description work

The first line has to survive being cut off at about 50 characters in the feed. Lead with the specific thing, not a preamble — “Small kitchen storage that actually fits” beats “Are you looking for storage ideas?”. After that, one sentence of detail and one call to action is enough.

Why templates help

Templates remove the blank-page problem and stop every description sounding identical. Rotating four shapes across a batch gives you variety without inventing a new structure each time, and variety is what keeps a board from looking automated.

The 500-character limit

Pinterest allows up to 500 characters for a description, but only the first ~100 show before the “more” cut. Treat everything past that as a bonus for search, not something a reader will see.

How to use Pin Description Templates

  1. Describe the pin in a few words.
  2. Say who it is for and what they get.
  3. Pick a template and copy the version you like.
Questions

Pin Description Templates FAQ

Should every pin have a different description?

Yes. Duplicate descriptions across pins are a duplicate-content signal and waste the chance to rank for a different phrase.

Can I include a link?

The destination link is a separate field. Putting a URL in the description does not make it clickable.

How long should it be?

One to two sentences, roughly 100–200 characters. Long descriptions are not read.
