Why intent beats volume

“Small kitchen storage” and “best small kitchen storage containers 2026” have similar words and completely different readers. The first wants inspiration and will save a pretty pin; the second is close to buying and wants a comparison. A beautiful idea pin shown to the second reader wastes the impression.

The four intents worth separating

How-to (“how to organise a pantry”) wants steps. Inspiration (“small kitchen ideas”) wants visuals. Comparison (“X vs Y”, “best”) wants a table or a verdict. Buying (“buy”, “price”, “near me”) wants a product and a link. Each maps to a different pin layout and a different landing page.

Mixed intent is a signal

Keywords that straddle two intents — “small kitchen storage ideas that are cheap” — are often the best ones, because the modifier narrows the audience without shrinking it to nothing. Write for both halves: the idea and the constraint.

Questions

Keyword Intent Classifier FAQ

How is intent detected?

From the words in the phrase: question words and “how” signal how-to, “best/vs/compared” signal comparison, “ideas/inspo” signal inspiration, and transactional verbs signal buying. It is a heuristic, so check the odd ones by hand.

Does this use search volume?

No. There is no volume data here — this sorts language, not demand. Use it after you have a list, not instead of research.

What if a keyword is unclassified?

It lands in “general”. Usually that means it is a single broad noun, which is better used as a board name than a pin target.
